George Johnson was born in King's Langley, Hertfordshire in 1867 and attested for the King's Royal Rifle Corps in April 1886. He served with the 1st Battalion in the Hazara Expedition, March to May 1891, and with the Miranzai Expeditionary Force in Samana, April to May 1891, and was discharged in April 1898, after 12 years’ service.
