Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Talana, Orange Free State, Transvaal (4291 Pte. H. Malkin. Rl. Irish Fus:) edge bruising and contact marks, nearly very fine £180-220

Henry Malkin was born in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, in 1873 and attested for the Royal Irish Fusiliers at Warwick on 19 October 1892. Posted to the 2nd Battalion, he transferred to the 1st Battalion on 26 February 1894, and served with the Regiment in India from that date until December 1897. He next served in Egypt, from December 1897 to September 1899, and then in South Africa during the Boer War from 30 September 1899 to 9 August 1902. Serving with ‘E’ Company, he was taken Prisoner of War at Nicholson’s Nek on 20 October 1899, and was released at Nooitgedacht on 5 September 1900. He transferred to the Army Reserve on 12 January 1903, and was discharged on 18 October 1908, after 16 years’ service.
