G. Simonds (also listed as Symons or Simmonds) served with the Coldstream Guards in Egypt and the Sudan, and was part of the force of 6 Officers and 79 other ranks from the Coldstream Guards that formed part of the Guards Camel Regiment at the Battle of Abu Klea, 17 January 1885. He was wounded in action two days later on 19 January 1885 during the subsequent advance on the Nile.
