William Stanley Martin was born on 11 June 1903 and attested for the Royal Tank Regiment, serving in the ranks for 17 years and 244 days. Advanced Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant, he was commissioned Lieutenant (Quarter Master) in the Royal Armoured Corps on 12 June 1942, before transferring to the Reconnaissance Corps on 12 October 1943, and was promoted Captain on 12 June 1945. Returning to the Royal Tank Regiment as Quartermaster on 30 August 1946, he retired on 18 August 1956.
