Ernest Charles Lingham served as a Telegraphist with both the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Reserve, ultimately being promoted to Chief Petty Officer Telegraphist. He subsequently served as a Technical Officer in the External Telecommunications Executive, General Post Office, and was awarded his Imperial Service Medal in 1969 (London Gazette 14 October 1969).
