James Tipple was born in Thetford, Suffolk, in 1840 and attested for the 73rd Foot on 18 February 1858. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in November 1876, and was discharged on 18 February 1879, after 21 years and 1 day’s service.
