George Shearer was born in Huntley, Aberdeenshire in 1829, and attested for the Royal Artillery in November 1847. He served with No. 1 Company, 11th Battalion, ‘W’ Battery during the Crimean War, and was discharged in April 1870, after 22 years and 153 days’ service.
