D.C.M. London Gazette 11 March 1920:
‘He has served with the battalion since October, 1915, in which he has carried out the duties of stretcher-bearer. In a recent action two stretcher-bearers were killed and two wounded in this battalion, but he continued his work untiringly in the face of the heaviest shell and machine-gun fire. He has at all times set an example of courage and self-sacrifice.’
