Robert Thompson was born in Yorkshire, and attested for the Coldstream Guards on 12 May 1846. He served with the Regiment in the Crimea, and was present at the Battles of the Alma, Balaklava, and Inkermann, and the siege of Sebastopol. He ‘died’ in the East on 3 March 1855, possibly at Scutari.
