Waterloo 1815 (John Fleming, 1st or Royal Dragoons.) fitted with steel clip and ring suspension, edge bruising and contact wear, otherwise nearly very fine £1,600-£2,000
John Fleming was born in Rochdale, Lancaster, and enlisted into the 1st Dragoons at Preston on 25 June 1798, aged 18 years, a weaver by trade. He served five years in the Peninsula, including the battles of Fuentes d’Onor and Vittoria, and at the battle of Waterloo, where he served in Captain Ralph Heathcote’s Troop. He was discharged to pension, on reduction of the regiment, on 28 December 1818. He is also entitled to the M.G.S. medal for Fuentes d’Onor and Vittoria (Sotheby, June 1904). Sold with copied discharge papers and medal roll entries.
