Silver Medal, voted 13th November 1890 - Treasurer and Hon. Secretary, R.N.L.I., Anglesea, 'in acknowledgement of his general gallant services in saving life from shipwreck.' Second Service Bar, Voted 12th January 1893 - Hon. Secretary Penmon R.N.L.I. - 'On 9th December, 1892 in a moderate N.E. gale and a rough sea, the Dublin schooner ‘James and Mary’ laden with coal from Preston to Wicklow, struck on the Beaton Rock, near Penmon, Anglesea. The Lifeboat Christopher Brown put out at 6.30 a.m. Reaching a position near by, the lifeboat let go her anchor and veered down to the wreck, braving rocks in a very heavy sea which was breaking over the wreck. With Mr. Preston aboard, Mr. Roberts manoeuvred alongside the wreck and took off the Master, his wife and three children, also the three man crew’.
