D.C.M. London Gazette 6 February 1918 ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as one of an attacking party. On reaching the objective he patrolled down a trench single-handed and came across several of the enemy, whom he fired on, killing two and bringing back four as prisoners.’

The regimental history states that this award was made for the attack on Cryer Farm on 15 September 1917. A total of 1 M.C., 2 D.C.M’s., 6 M.M’s. and one bar to the M.M. were awarded to the regiment for this attack. Cryer Farm was so called in memory of Lieutenant B. N. Cryer, 7th London Regiment, who was killed during the regiment’s initial attack on this position.
