A Great War 1916 ‘Western Front’ M.M. awarded to Private C. Pressley, Northumberland Fusiliers
Military Medal, G.V.R. (9784 Pte. C. Pressley. 1/Nth’d: Fus:) edge bruise, nearly very fine £240-£280
M.M. London Gazette 11 October 1916.
Charles Pressley attested for the Northumberland Fusiliers and served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 13 August 1914, where the Battalion, as part of 9th Brigade, 3rd Division, was heavily involved at Mons, Le Cateau, and the retreat form Mons. He was awarded the M.M. in October 1916, most likely for his gallantry during the Battle of the Somme, where the 1st Battalion had been in action at Barentin-le-Grand in July, and took part in a series of failed attacks on Lonely Trench, Guillemont on 18 August 1916. He was discharged on 22 April 1919, but re-enlisted in the York and Lancaster Regiment on 23 July of that year, and served with the 2nd Battalion in North West Persia.
Sold with copied Medal Index Card and other research.
