George Daniels attested for the Royal Field Artillery (Territorial Force) at Norwich on 6 October 1914, and served during the Great War with 272nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery on the Western Front from 15 November 1915 to 2 February 1916, and subsequently in Egypt from 3 February 1916 to 7 February 1919. He was wounded in action by shrapnel to the left thigh on 3 November 1917, and was awarded the Military Medal ‘for gallantry and devotion to duty in the field on 6 December 1917’. Appointed Acting Sergeant on 8 October 1918, he was demobilised on 31 March 1920, after 5 years and 179 days’ service.
