A Second War ‘Italy’ M.M. group of seven awarded to Lance-Sergeant A. H. V. Davies, Royal Artillery, for his gallantry and devotion to duty in maintaining the signal communications of his Battery during the winter of 1943-44 - he was originally recommended for the D.C.M.

M.M. London Gazette 21 December 1944:
‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Italy.’

The Recommendation, originally for a D.C.M., states: ‘Lance-Sergeant Davies has shown a very high degree of devotion to duty and complete disregard of danger in maintaining the signal communications of his Battery. In particular during the period November 1943 to January 1944 when his Battery was supporting the infantry in the Arielli sector he kept communications open, in spite of the appalling weather, consistent enemy Mortar and Shell fire, and the fact that the Observation Post line was 7 miles long over very bad and difficult going. Whenever the line was cut by enemy action he insisted on going out himself to see it was repaired and on several instances repaired it under heavy Mortar concentrations from the enemy.’

Albert Horace Victor Davies attested for the Royal Artillery and was serving as an acting Lance-Sergeant with 78th Mediterranean Regiment, R.A. in Italy at the time of his M.M. exploits.

Sold with named Buckingham Palace enclosure for the M.M.; telegram the the recipient’s wife informing her of the award of the M.M.; and two photographs of the recipient, one with his wife.
