The original recommendation states: ‘Quartermaster Sergeant Albert James Brunsdon has served at Commando School, Royal Marines as Company Sergeant Major of the Recruit Training Company for three years and three months. During the whole of this period he has at all times exhibited outstanding zeal, energy, and devotion to duty. He has set a splendid example to all ranks, in particular the very large number of Continuous Service and National Service Recruits who have passed through Commando School during this lengthy period. His administration of this constantly changing Company has maintained an uniformly high standard. Apart from his Company duties, Quartermaster Sergeant Brunsdon has for a long period been the President of the Sergeants’ Mess Committee, and in this important assignment has done his utmost to uphold the dignity of the Mess by his direction and example.’

Albert James Brunsdon enlisted in the Royal Marines at Birkenhead, and served during the Second World War with the 4th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Marines, as part of the Marine Naval Base Defence Organisation Air Defence Brigade, in Egypt, Sicily, Cherbourg, Antwerp, and Ostend. For his services during the Second World War he was Mentioned in Despatches, ‘for services with 21st Army Group No. 44, January 1945’ (London Gazette 17 July 1945), prior to seeing further service post-War in Palestine.
