Afghanistan 1878-80, no clasp (1060. Pte. T. Short. 1/5th. Fusrs.) edge bruising, nearly very fine £70-£90

Thomas Short was born in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland, in 1851 and attested there for the 5th Foot on 15 November 1876. He served with the 1st Battalion in India from 2 January 1877, and saw action during the Second Afghan War, serving in Afghanistan from 3 December 1878 to 8 June 1879 and also from 24 December 1879 to 20 August 1880, before transferring to the 2nd Battalion on 12 October 1880. Returning to the U.K. on 10 March 1883, he transferred to Reserve on 18 March 1883, and was discharged on 16 November 1892, after 16 years’ service.
