Frederick Pitchforth was born in Doncaster in May 1872, and attested for the Royal Artillery at St George’s Barracks, London, in October 1890. He served in South Africa with the 2nd Division Ammunition Column and was discharged in October 1902, on completion of his term of limited re-engagement.
