Estonia, Republic, a scarce Baltic Regiment Jetton, silver, in the form of a sword surmounted on a shield, the reverse engraved ‘B.R.’, with screwback suspension, the screwplate embossed ‘O/Ü. I. Kopf, Tallinn’, very fine, scarce £200-£300
During the Estonian War of Independence 1918-20, the Baltic Germans, despite their relatively small numbers, established their own military forces, the Baltic Regiment (Baltenregiment), in order to support the struggle. Established in Tartu on 27 November 1918, the force, which initially numbered around 300 volunteers, was mainly made up from the sons of Baltic-German nobility studying at Tartu University, and was equipped by the Estonian government. The Regiment was disbanded in the general demobilisation of Estonian forces in 1920.
