Frederick Crew was born in New Cross, London and attested for the South Wales Borderers at Shoreditch, London. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and died of wounds on 23 November 1917 at a time when his Battalion was consolidating gains made at Cambrai, France. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial, France.
