William Edward Chivers was born in Bow, Middlesex and attested for the South Wales Borderers. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War, disembarking on 25 November 1915, before later being posted to the Western Front. He was killed in action during the 2nd Battalion’s attack on Beaumont Hamel on 1 July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
