Thomas Morgan was born at Reading Berkshire. He enlisted, from the Berkshire Militia, into the 3rd Battalion, 14th Foot, in 1813, and served in Captain William Turner’s Company in the Waterloo campaign, also taking part in the storming of Cambrai and the advance into France. He transferred to the 2nd Battalion on 2 May 1816, and travelled to India with the battalion, serving at the siege and capture of Bhurtpoor in 1826. He was promoted to Corporal in 1828 and discharged in 1831.
