Pair: Private F. Caveney, King’s Royal Rifle Corps

India General Service 1854-95, 2 clasps, Hazara 1891, Samana 1891, unofficial retaining rod between clasps, with top lugs removed (4618 Pte. F. Cavaney [sic] 1st. Bn. K.R. Rif. C.); Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Relief of Ladysmith, Laing’s Nek, Belfast (4618 Pte. F. Caveney. K.R.R.C.) nearly extremely fine (2) £280-£320

Frederick Caveney was born in London in 1866 and attested there for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps on 28 July 1888, having previously served in the 7th Battalion, K.R.R.C. He served with the Regiment in India from 25 November 1890 to 3 March 1896, and saw action with the Hazara Expedition, March to May 1891, and with the Miranzai Expeditionary Force in Samana, April to May 1891. Transferring to the Army Reserve on 7 March 1896, he was recalled to the Colours on 13 November 1899, and served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War from 13 December 1899 to 4 July 1901. He was discharged on 27 July 1901, after 13 years’ service.
