Victor Gosling was born in Southwark, Surrey, and attested for the 2nd Life Guards at London in July 1883. He advanced to Corporal in September 1892, and Corporal of Horse in June 1899 (awarded L.S. & G.C. October 1901). Gosling was discharged, 13 July 1904, having served 21 years and 12 days with the Colours.
Gosling re-engaged for service during the Great War aged 50, in November 1914. He served as a Squadron Corporal Major at Home until his discharge, 3 August 1919 (Mentioned in War Officer Communique, 25 March 1919, ‘for valuable services rendered in connection with the war’).
