John William Stephenson was born in Boston, Lincolnshire, on 17 March 1862, and joined the Royal Naval Reserve on 23 November 1914. He served during the Great War in H.M. Trawler Goshawk II, and died at home from Bronchitic asthma on 29 March 1916. He is buried in Grimsby Cemetery, Lincolnshire.
