Frederick Daniel was born in Royston, Lancashire, in 1875, and served during the Great War in the Merchant Fleet Auxiliary.
Arthur Daniels was born in Pontardarve, Glamorgan, on 15 November 1888, and joined the Royal Navy on 20 October 1915. He served in H.M.S. Highflyer as a Stoker 2nd Class from 11 January 1916, and was promoted Stoker 1st Class on 1 October 1916. Highflyer was part of the 9th Cruiser Squadron, and spent most of the Great War on convoy escort duties and intercepting German commerce raiders. He was shore demobilised on 17 February 1919.
