Daniels. C. Gds.); Imperial Service Medal, E.II.R., 2nd issue (Samuel Joseph Daniels) in Royal Mint case of issue; together with the recipient’s Gordon Boys’ Home Medal for Exemplary Conduct (No. 2336. Boy. S. Samuel Daniels was born in Woolwich on 22 June 1895 and attended the Gordon Boys’ Home from 14 October 1909 to 16 September 1912. He attested for the Coldstream Guards at Exeter on 28 August 1914, and served with the 5th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 27 April 1915. He was discharged on 12 August 1916 having suffered a gun shot wound to the left leg that necessitated the amputation of his left leg three inches below the hip, and was awarded a Silver War Badge. He was subsequently employed by the Civil Service as a Third Class Examiner.
