William Kellett was born in Barrow-in-Furness, Lancashire, and attested there for the King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. He served during the Great War on the Western Front from 4 September 1915 and subsequently with the 6th Battalion in Mesopotamia. He was killed in action during the capture of the Dahra Bend, near Kut al Amara, on 9 February 1917, prior to the capture of Baghdad. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq.
