Edwin Cornelius Daniels was born on 2 November 1918, and attested for the South African Forces at Johannesburg on 19 August 1940. Posted to the South African Transport Corps, he served in Egypt from March 1943 to April 1944, and then in Italy from April 1944 to September 1945. He was advanced Sergeant 20 December 1941, and temporary Staff Sergeant on 1 May 1942, and was discharged on the reduction of the establishment on 4 January 1946.
