1939-45 Star; Africa Star; War Medal 1939-45; Africa Service Medal, all officially named ‘5115 G. C. G. Keightley’; mounted with an Italy Star, this unofficially named ‘5115 G. C. G. Keightley’; and an International Prisoners of War Medal, very fine (6) £70-£90
George Clifford Gray Keightley was born at Pietermaritzburg on Christmas Day 1913, and attested for the Royal Durban Light Infantry on 20 June 1940. He served with the 1st Battalion during the Second World War in North Africa from June 1941, and was taken Prisoner of War in Libya on 7 June 1942. He was held in the Italian Prisoner of War Camp P.G. 54 at Fara-in-Sabina (which may explain why he ‘awarded’ himself the Italy Star), and was released on 18 May 1945. He was discharged on 21 September 1945.
Sold with two Shooting Medals, bronze, the reverses engraved ‘Engcobo D.R.A. November 1928’ and ‘Engcobo D.R.A. January 1929’; and copied service papers.
