Carl Bjorn Hansen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1915, the son of Valdemar and Alice Hansen, and was employed in Singapore as an Assistant with the East Asiatic Company. He served with the 1st (Singapore Volunteer Corps) Battalion, Straits Settlements Volunteer Force during the Second World War, and was taken Prisoner of War following the Fall of Singapore. He died in captivity in Kuching, Borneo, on 23 August 1945, aged 29 years, and is buried in the Labuan War Cemetery, Malaysia. He was a recipient of King Christian’s Commemorative Medal for Participation in the War.
