Noel Hugh Aldersey Taylor was born in Camberley, Surrey, on 16 October 1920, and in 1939 was an engineering student living in Kensington (eventually becoming an Associate Member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers). He was commissioned Electrical Sub Lieutenant on 11 May 1942 in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and soon after was based in H.M.S. Colonsay, the Royal Navy Patrol Station at Grimsby. Advanced Temporary Fleet Sub Lieutenant on 26 May 1942, he served in H.M.S. Asbury, an accommodation ship and Signal School at Asbury Park, New Jersey, United States of America from 1 March 1943, for service on (B.Y.M.S.) British Motor Minesweepers. During this period of service he transferred to the Royal Navy and was promoted Electrical Lieutenant on 11 November 1944. He next served in the Minesweeper H.M.S. Marmion from 25 February 1946, before transferring in May 1951 to H.M.S. Drake, and was promoted Lieutenant-Commander on 11 November 1951. He subsequently served in the Royal Naval Air Station H.M.S. Goldcrest from 21 September 1953, before being seconded as the Loan Officer to the Royal Australian Navy from 24 February 1955, serving in H.M.A.S. Cerberus from 30 March 1955. He reverted back to Royal Navy on 12 August 1957, and served with the Naval Intelligence Division from January 1960. He died in Portsmouth in 1991.
