P. D. Crowden-Longstreath served as a Pilot Officer during the Second War, and was serving with 271 (Transport) Squadron (Dakotas) in 1944. The Squadron was an airborne forces unit and was active during D-Day in June 1944, supplied aircraft for the Arnhem landings in September 1944, and also for the Rhine crossing in March 1945. He advanced to Flying Officer in November 1945.
