Edward Stammers was born on 19 August 1932, and served with the 1st Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment, as a National Serviceman in Korea from September 1952, being advanced Lance-Corporal. On completion of his service he enlisted in the Royal Fusiliers (Territorial Army) on 26 January 1953, and was discharged on 2 July 1956.
