Tom Cook was born in Collier’s Wood, Merton, London, the son of Police Constable Tom Cook, and attested for the London Regiment at Merton. He served as a Sergeant with the 8th (City of London) Battalion (Post Office Rifles) during the Great War on the Western Front from 18 March 1915, and was killed in action on 2 November 1915. He is buried in Dud Corner Cemetery, Loos, France.
