William Squires (alias ‘Beards’) was born in Willenhall, Staffordshire, in April 1865. He served for 9 years with the Grenadier Guards before joining the Metropolitan Police in March 1893. Squire served his entire career with ‘H’ (Whitechapel) Division, and was discharged, 7 July 1919, having served 26 years and 123 days.
