56th (West Essex) Regiment Officer’s 1829 Pattern Shako Plate. A fine quality example (KK65). The universal crowned star pattern back plate with silver, gilt and blue enamel overlays, comprising an elongated silver star, gilt laurel sprays, Gibraltar Castle & Key, honour scrolls Moro & Gibraltar, a tablet ‘LVI’. The Castle & Key on a ground of blue enamel, two loop fasteners to the reverse, only one fixing wire remains, all major ray finials are buckled but not fractured, a tear to one ray point to the left of the base of the crown, two tiny chips to the blue enamel, the gilt very fine, overall good condition £800-£1,000
