World War One Period Leather Flying Helmet, a very fine example of the ‘pull-over’ type, in soft mid-tan leather made up of nine panels and complete with narrow bracing straps near the wearer’s temples, a corded and buckled bracing strap for the rear of the skull area, three stud adjustable ear flap panels; the bottom edge trimmed with lightly corded brown linen, the mid-section originally fur lined, now nearly all missing and grub damage to the leather base of this fur, officially stamped with the size ‘7 1/4’ and hand marked with indelible pencil, ‘A. Shore 1919’. Maximum height 40.5cms and width across the bottom 37cm, very good condition for age. £300-£400
