A Georgian Period Volunteer Infantry Side Drum, a good quality example (42cm tall, 43cm across the top), the body of curved wood with 1.2cm stout wooden hoops, these with some period repairs, taught vellum ends,the front panel with painted decoration, being a red shield with gilt script capitals ‘RVI’, (re-touched) palm sprays below the shield, a family crest above the shield showing a peacock’s head and tail feathers emanating from a coronet; this crest in all likelihood of later addition and is relatively crude. The drum skilfully and correctly restrung at some time past, good overall condition £300-£500
