Ernest Webb attested for the Rifle Brigade and served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 21 September 1914. He subsequently transferred to the Royal Engineers, and was awarded the Military Medal whilst serving with No. 3 Light Railway Operating Company, Royal Engineers.
