Herbert C. Lovatt, a native of Brighton, attested for the Welsh Guards with the service number 677, and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 17 August 1915. He later transferred to the Guards Machine-Gun Regiment, and was serving with them when he was awarded his Military Medal.
