Wilfred Barker was born in Loughborough in 1896. He served during the Great War with the 8th (Service) Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment in the French theatre of war from 29 July 1915 (Croix de Guerre). Barker subsequently transferred to the 14th (Service) Battalion; with the latter serving in the French theatre of war from 30 July 1918.
