Alexander Scowgall/Scougall served as a Private in the Royal Marines with H.M.S. Bellerophon, on and off the coast of Syria in 1840.
He was born in Leicester, and attested for the Royal Marines in May 1823. Subsequent service included with H.M. ships Warspite, Lively, Spartiate, Rattlesnake, Victory and Illustrious. Scowgall was discharged, 13 June 1845, having served for 22 years and 27 days.
The published transcription of the N.G.S. medal roll gives a medal to ‘Alexander Scougall’ as appearing at Glendinings in March 1903, with ‘False Clasps’. The above medals appear entirely as issued.
