Wadham Sales Terry was born at Esher, Surrey, on 29 September 1843. He was appointed Ensign in the 87th Fusiliers on 24 March 1866, and promoted to Lieutenant on 31 July 1867, and to Captain on 8 June 1876. He served with the 1st Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers in the Egyptian War of 1882, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with clasp). He was placed on retired pay, with the honorary rank Major, on 29 September 1882. His brother, Lieutenant Arthur Terry, also served with the Royal Irish Fusiliers at Tel-el-Kebir and together they captured a quantity of Egyptian swords, rifles, etc., which were later presented to the regimental museum and mounted in the form of a large inverted horseshoe on the wall. He died at Folkestone on 17 September 1896, aged 52.
