George W. H. Wood was born in Woolwich, Kent in 1864, and attested for The Rifle Brigade at Dover in October 1883. He served with the Regiment in Burma from December 1888, returning to England in 1890. Wood advanced to Colour Sergeant and was awarded his L.S. & G.C. in 1902. He was discharged, 23 October 1904, after 21 years service with the Colours. Soon after his discharge he was appointed Sergeant-Major Instructor to the O.T.C. at Sherborne School, which post he held for 20 years.
Wood retired in 1924, and died in October the following year at Aldershot, Hampshire.
