William H. Kime was born in Lough, Lincolnshire. He attested for the Lincolnshire Regiment at Grimsby in August 1894, and served with the 1st Battalion in the Sudan and South Africa (qualifying in Telegraphy). Kime was discharged, 26 August 1906, having served 12 years with the Colours. He re-engaged for service during the Great War with the Royal Engineers.
