Percy Amiel Fairall attested for the Natal Carbineers (1st Mounted Rifles) on 27 August 1914, and served with them in German South West Africa. He attested for the South African Overseas Expeditionary Force on 28 February 1917, and served with the 2nd South African Infantry on the Western Front from 29 July 1917. He was promoted Acting Sergeant on 27 August 1917, and was discharged on 10 July 1919.
