Jack Richardson was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1897, and attested for the Royal Engineers at Doncaster in October 1915. His service during the Great War included in Egypt, Macedonia, Caucasus, and he served with the Caucasus Signal Company, Royal Engineers. Richardson contracted chronic dysentery on the Salonika front, 16 September 1916, and was discharged 29 August 1919.
