Ernest Braithwaite initially attested for the East Yorkshire Regiment and then transferred to the King’s Dragoons Guards. He served as a Trooper in Pre-War Palestine with this unit attached to the Headquarters Force in Jerusalem. Very few of the King’s Dragoon Guards served in Palestine making this a very scarce medal to the unit. He went on to served with ‘B’ Squadron in the Second World War, being Mentioned In Despatches for his services in the Middle East, and then subsequently serving in post-War Palestine. In February 1948 he was the North Irish Horse, in Omagh, Northern Ireland for 3 years. His Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was awarded to him as a Squadron Quarter Master Sergeant in 1952.
