James McKeon, a native of Co. Leitrim, joined the Royal Irish Constabulary on 8 December 1871, aged 19. He was stationed at Londonderry from June 1872; Kerry from November 1880; Limerick from January 1884; Kildare from February 1894; Armagh from September 1894; Monaghan from June 1895; and Mayo from May 1905. He was promoted Head Constable on 1 February 1894, and retired to pension on 20 November 1905.
